Ava DuVernay and Autumn Riley

Ava DuVernay is a Californian born in Long beach on 24 August 1972. DuVernay was introduced to art from the aunt Denise. Aunt Denise worked as an overnight nursing assistant in order to provide her with the chance to learn about art literature or theater. She introduced DuVernay to the film of 1961 West Side Story and DuVernay fell in love with it. DuVernay learned the art of being a good tool to engage in social activism. Similar to DuVernay's mom, she was socially conscious and taught the importance of speaking up through art. DuVernay, who grew up with her family in Compton was a summer resident in Lowndes County Alabama in the family home of her father. DuVernay's Dad recalled seeing the Civil Rights Movement's historic march along the Edmund Pettus Bridge near the town of Selma Alabama. DuVernay was inspired by the summers she spent in Alabama to inspire her next film, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. DuVernay was a graduate of Saint Joseph High School Lakewood California in 1990. In 1990, she completed her studies at the Saint Joseph High School located in Lakewood, California. DuVernay started broadcasting journalism at the age of an elementary school student. Her first job was as an intern with CBS News, during the O.J. Simpson trial. DuVernay remembers being asked look over the rubbish in the house that belonged to a member of jury. After being disappointed in journalism by the tasks she was handed and deciding to go after the field of publicity. DuVernay found a job immediately from college, working as a young publicist for a studio. From this position she started her own public relations company named The DuVernay Agency in 1999.
