Penelope Cruz Sanchez
Penelope Cruz Sanchez was born in Madrid
to Eduardo Cruz, a retailer and Encarna Sanchez, hairdresser. She was a
compulsive performer when she was a kid and even reenacted commercials on TV to
amuse the family. However, she chose to concentrate on dance. After nine years
of ballet instruction at Spain's National Conservatory she was able to continue
her studies under the supervision of a variety of prominent dancers. She
discovered her true passion at age 15 when she smashed more than 300 other
girls in an audition with an agency for talent. The contract she received
landed her roles on Spanish TV shows , as well as music videos. It opened the
way to a promising career in the world of film. Cruz made her debut film in

several Goyas that are the Spanish equivalent to the Academy Awards. Cruz
became a renowned Spanish actress with her average of three to four films per
year that she added to her resume. Live Flesh (1997) (Live Flesh) offered her

later be her ticket to international fame), and the same year she was the lead
actress in the thriller/drama/mystery/sci-fi film Open Your Eyes (1997), a huge
hit in Spain that earned eight Goyas (though none for Cruz). It all changed in
1998 when her movie industry comedy La Nina De Tus Ojos (1998) won her the
award for the Best Actress Goya. Cruz made several more trips to films in
