Sharon Stone worked as a model before moving into film, landing roles in features such as Irreconcilable Differents and Total Recall. Her scintillating role in the film Basic Instinct brought a lot of buzz. She also starred in Gloria, Sliver and If These Walls Could Talk 2. She was nominated, and she won an Academy Award for Casino. Stone decided to pursue acting in the 1980s. She was a part of various film and television roles during the decade. She played the memorable role of Blake Chandler in the 1984 Golden Globe-nominated comedy, Irreconcilable Disparities. She was also a funny role in the comedy, Police Academy 4 : Citizens on Patrol (1987). Following the win, she took on several dramatic roles, including The Quick and the Dead (1995) and Last Dance (1996). She ended the decade with a few uneven films, such as Gloria in 1998 and Sphere in 1999. But she was highly praised for her performance as a comedian in The Muse in 1999. In 2001, Stone encountered health problems following a severe headache that resulted in an internal hemorrhage in her brain. Stone married producer Michael Greenburg in 1984. The couple split three years later. She got married to Phil Bronstein, San Francisco Chronicle Executive editor of the San Francisco Chronicle in 1998. Before their divorce in 2004, they adopted Roan Joseph, their son. Stone has adopted two additional sons since the time of their divorce: Quinn Kelly (2006) and Laird Vonne (2006).
